Below are common Risk Factors for gynecologic cancer.
- Family history of ovarian cancer, breast cancer, colon cancer
- Personal history of breast cancer, endometrial cancer, colon cancer
- Hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer
- Increasing age
- Incessant ovulation (no birth control pills, no pregnancies, infertility)
- Use of high dose estrogen for long periods without progesterone may be a risk factor
- Exposure to talc or asbestos (i.e., industrial contamination, condoms dusted with talc, use of talc-based powders in the genital area (Cornstarch-based powders are a safe alternative)
- High fat diet (may be a risk)
- North American or Northern European heritage and/or Ashkenazie Jewish population
- Living in an industrialized country
